What is composting?
Composting is the process of turning food scraps and yard waste into usable, nutrient-rich soil through natural decomposition. By using the correct material, microorganisms break down organic waste and create a soil product that is extremely nutritious. Finished compost is an earthy, dark, crumbly substance that is excellent for adding to house plants or enriching garden soil.
Why compost?
Composting is nature’s way of recycling. It is one of the most powerful actions we can take to reduce our waste, address climate change, and build healthy soil. By turning food scraps and yard trimmings into compost, we can transform trash into treasure!
Composting Benefits:
- Diverts your food and yard waste from the landfill.
- Improves the structure and health of your soil by adding organic matter.
- Conserves water by conditioning your soil to retain more moisture.
- Saves you money by reducing the need for chemical fertilizer.
