Need to report a failing street light, traffic signal, or other traffic-related issue?

Problems can be reported 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to the City using the Request for Service form Avondale’s virtual service request system.

To ensure the best possible service, be prepared to leave the following information:

• The closest street address to the streetlight outage.  If unknown, please provide major cross streets.
• Streetlight pole number, which is located 6 - 10 feet up from the bottom of the pole.
• Name and number so the technician can contact them with any questions or for further clarification.

Repair Completion
Repairs are generally completed within three (3) to four (4) working days, with the exception of knockdowns/ emergencies. Knockdowns are considered streetlight poles that are completely damaged (usually through a traffic accident) and the streetlight cannot be repaired. The City contracts with an outside vendor to repair knockdowns/emergencies. These repairs should be completed within fifteen (15) working days of when the contractor has been notified.  

The City of Avondale’s SRTS program is a partnership between the City and the school districts within the City. The Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program’s aim to make it safer for students to walk and bike to school. A SRTS study assesses existing conditions to identify barriers discouraging students from walking and biking to school and develops recommendations for safety improvements and measures to encourage walking and bicycling to school.

The City of Avondale, in partnership with the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG), will be conducting Safe Routes to School (SRTS) studies at the elementary schools within the city. The studies are conducted by a professional traffic engineer based upon the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Traffic Safety for School Areas Guidelines and standard traffic engineering practices. The goal of the studies is to develop a list of recommendations that may be implemented over time as funds can be secured.

Parents are also encouraged to use bus services for those children that live outside of a school’s walking boundary or that may require special services. Questions regarding bus transportation should be directed to the respective school district.

The following is the current schedule for each school’s SRTS study. Underlined schools provide a link to their suggested walking/biking routes. Lattie Coor, Elisco C. Felix, Avondale Middle Schools, Corte Sierra and Rio Vista are being studied presently.

Neighborhoods often have concerns about traffic. It's not only a safety issue, but a quality of life issue too.

The City of Avondale’s Engineering Department works with residents and neighborhoods throughout the City to address traffic concerns through its Neighborhood Traffic Management Program (NTMP).

The NTMP is a multi-step process beginning with a resident completing the NTMP Service Request and submitting it to the City. Upon receipt by City staff the location is reviewed for acceptability of street classification and possible future mitigation measures. If acceptable, Traffic Studies will be conducted to determine speeds and volumes on the street(s). If speed and/or volume criteria are met, then the street is eligible for participation in the NTMP and possibly obtaining mitigation measures.

At this point City staff will be in contact with the requesting party and begin the process for determining locations for mitigation measures and getting acceptance from the neighborhood residents. Select the NTMP policy link below for complete details.
